A time card calculator turns clock-in and clock-out times into total hours, regular vs overtime split, and gross weekly pay. Useful for hourly employees verifying paychecks, freelancers tracking client hours, and anyone curious whether their week was actually 40 hours or 47.

How weekly hours and overtime are calculated

Daily hours = clock-out − clock-in − unpaid breaks. Total hours = sum across the week. Federal FLSA defines overtime as hours over 40 per workweek, paid at 1.5× regular rate. Some states (California, Alaska, Nevada) also require daily overtime over 8 or 12 hours. Gross pay = (regular hours × rate) + (OT hours × rate × OT multiplier).

When to use this calculator

Use it to double-check your paycheck — payroll errors are surprisingly common, and most affect the OT calculation. Use it as a freelancer or consultant to bill clients accurately. Use it before negotiating a flat rate to know what your effective hourly rate would be at typical hours worked.

Worked example

A retail worker logs 9-5 with 30-minute unpaid breaks Mon-Fri (7.5 hours × 5 = 37.5) plus a 5-hour Saturday shift = 42.5 total hours. At $20/hour with 1.5× OT over 40: regular 40 hrs × $20 = $800. OT 2.5 hrs × $30 = $75. Gross weekly pay: $875.
